Volunteer for Festival 2008
This serves to invite you to be
a part of the 2008 Festival de la Familia event. This will
be our 18th year of family-oriented community event that
celebrates Latino culture. A variety of authentic Latino
food, exciting entertainment, children's activities, arts
and crafts, art exhibits and community outreach organizations
help make this the largest one-day event in Sacramento. Festival
is scheduled for Sunday, April 27, 2008.
Volunteers are the
foundation of Festival de la Familia. Festival relies on
the help of approximately 550 volunteers
from the community to stage this exciting event. There
are several specialized committees of volunteers, some
of which
work year round to coordinate the event. However, it
is the work of the volunteers from the community who gather
on the
day of the event to bring it all together, keep everything
running smoothly and plant the seeds of future Festival
events.
Volunteers will work in an area
they prefer for a 3-hour block (6 am to 6 pm) on the day
of the event.
There will
be a Volunteer orientation before the day of the event
so Volunteers feel comfortable with their assignments.
All our
Volunteers will receive a free Festival 2008 Volunteer
T-shirt, parking, and admission to the event. Volunteers
under 18
years of age must be accompanied by an adult or can
register as a group or family. Volunteers are also eligible
to
receive "Community
Service" credit for this event and will be provided
with an certificate of acknowledgement on the day of
the event. Bilingual Volunteers are encouraged to participate,
but it is not a requirement.

It is a significant task
to recruit, assign and train all the volunteers. Community
support by volunteers
is a huge
part of the success of Festival because they are
the ambassadors of Festival. Without volunteer
participation, there would
be no Festival. My heartfelt appreciation goes
out to all those who volunteer and make this event so
successful.
